Kannur International Airport (Malayalam: കണ്ണൂര്‍ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളം) is an upcoming international airport located at Mattanur in Kannur District, Kerala, India. The airport is the fourth international airport in Kerala.
As of 19 July 2011, 1,276 acres (5.16 km2) has been acquired for the airport out of 1,284 acres (5.20 km2) notified. Kannur Airport project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) is a public limited company set up by the government of Kerala to build and operate the proposed Kannur International Airport. The company was registered in December 2009 as a private limited company and converted into a public limited one in August 2010. The land after acquisition will be transferred to the company, which is implementing the airport project. The Airport Company will pay for the land. The paid up capital of the company has been contributed by the government of Kerala and the public sector undertaking of the government, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). The registered office of the company is at Thiruvananthapuram (erstwhile Trivandrum). The project will be implemented on a Public–private partnership(PPP) basis and a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model. Kerala State government would have control over 51 per cent of the share in Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) floated with an authorised capital of Rs.1,000 crore. Of this, 26 per cent of the equity would be with the government. The value of the land totalling 26 per cent of the authorised capital would be converted into the government's equity. The land exceeding that value would be given on lease to the company. 23 per cent of the equity would be with the public sector undertaking and two per cent with Infrastructure Kerala Ltd.(INKEL).

The proposed equity structure of the company is as follows:
26% by the state government, in the form of land
23% by public sector undertakings
2% by other companies sponsored by the government(INKEL)
49% by qualified institutional investors, individuals and high net worthcompanies

The airport is to be built at Moorkhanparamba area, 2 kilometers south-west of Mattannur town, 22 kilometers from Kannur, 23 kilometers from Thalassery, 32 kilometers from Mahe, 55 kilometers from Indian Naval Academy-Ezhimala, 90 kilometers from Madikeri(Coorg) and 115 kilometers from Kasargod. KINFRA has acquired land for the airport, as the nodal agency of the government. So far, 1578 acres has been acquired, with another 783 acres notified for further acquisition on fast track basis. Families who have been rendered homeless as a result of the acquisition, 122 families, have been rehabilitated close to the airport by the government. Land has been given free to them for this purpose, apart from the compensation paid for land and buildings acquired. Government has also sanctioned funds for supply of electricity and water to these families apart from constructing roads in the area. The Kannur International Airport project includes plans to build commercial non-aeronautical projects that range from cargo and logistics facilities, golf courses, and business parks. In addition to that, Indian Navy and other industrial institutions will utilize some of the areas within the airport facilities. KIAL also plan to set up an international convention centre for conducting business meetings and accommodating conference delegates. The Airport will have a runway length of 3400 meters. The orientation of the runway is 07/25, which permits obstacle free approach.
Infrastructure and Connectivity

The airport location is 19 kilometers away from National Highway 17(NH-17) and 4 kilometers away from Tellicherry-Mysore Highway(SH-30). More than eight roads are to be developed for connecting to the Airport, which includes Kannur(Melechovva)-Mattannur road, Thalassery-Mattannur road, Thalassery–Anjarakandy–Airport road, Thalassery–Nadapuram Road, Karnataka Border (Koottupuzha/Makutta) – Mattannur Road, Wayanad (Mananthavadi) – Nedumpoil – Mattannur road, Payyannur/Ezhimala–Mattannur road, Thalassery–Mahe Bypass, etc. Kannur–Mattannur road and Thalassery–Mattannur road will be upgraded to 4/6 lanes, considering the availability of required land for widening. Other related roads will be widened and upgraded with high quality surfacing and constructing new bridges and culverts. Approximately, Rs. 300 crore are expected as the cost for the development of access roads to the Airport.
Airport will be linked to Kannur and Thalassery via rail link in the near future, considering the proposed Thalassery-Mysore line. Preliminary discussions have been held with Indian Railways to discuss setting up Kannur Airport Railway Station within or near to the airport premises. Kannur Airport is located at a distance of 24 km from Kannur Railway Station.
